I am interested in purchasing a laptop computer. Please advise best choice to me?

I basically want one to surf the web, like chat areas, myspace, play some music, go to different sites, fast connection. I want to put Word, excel, etc on..i want a nice one, not the cheapest one out there, but not the most expensive either..

It sounds like you're just an average computer user looking for a middle of the road computer. I suggest going through the major retailers (HP, Dell, etc.) and looking on their sites. Or, you could check local electronics stores (Best Buy, Office Max, Staples, Circuit City, etc.) and they usually have decent packages for sale. As far as hardware specs, I suggest you get:

Windows (probably have to get Vista...)

2 GB RAM Memory

120 GB Hard Drive or Higher

Ethernet port for high-speed internet connection (if you have one)

Those are probably the major things, I wouldn't worry about graphics too much. If you're going to be using it for music a lot you might want to get an external set of speakers since laptop speakers are usually pretty poor in quality (since they're so small)

my job mainly involves providing laptop support and i would say dont buy HP or Sony beacuse they have issues with vista. Toshiba's are built really well but they have crappy support. IBM's are nice you can check out the idea pad if you like. dell's are cheap and provide good customer support and trouble shooting. apples are good, but very expensive and dont really provide any extra functionality for your basic needs, and they seem to crash as often as other laptops.
